Registration and Club News

Greetings soccer community.  I am writing to make a few announcements that we at CMRC are excited to share.  First is that we are opening soccer registration April 1st.  This registration will include all Rec and Travel level programs by age group as well as our Hot Shots clinic.  Registration will remain open through spring and summer closing August 15th.  If you plan to have your child tryout for a travel team please register early as we intend to hold tryouts the week of May 20th.  This gives you roughly 7 weeks to get registered so please make every effort to do this prior to tryouts.

We are pleased to be working with Coerver United next fall for team and Hot Shots training.  Last year was our first with this group and feedback was overwhelmingly positive.  Hot Shots in particular benefits from having a well-organized session that is both fun and focused.  Children must be age 4 to prior to start of this program so please keep in mind when registering.  (BIRTH DATE PRIOR TO 8/31/14)

Our Rec program will once again be teaming up with Cockeysville Rec to expand our field of teams for competitive play.  Last year this worked very well in age groups that needed extra teams and limits travel radius for parents with busy weekends.  We are also exploring adding other partners depending on how our registration numbers work out.  This is difficult to do too far in advance but we already have these relationships established and will act in order to give our kids the best experience possible.  Our U8 program is thriving with the 4on 4 format and plans are to continue this early player development model in the fall.

By far our biggest change and most exciting announcement is the formation of Phoenix Football Club (PFC).  This is a combination of our existing CMRC Travel program, and Baltimore Soccer Club.  After years of coexisting we feel the time is right to play as a single entity.  This will enable us to offer year round play options and combine the talent in our age groups to put the most competitive teams on the field representing our community.  This has been done successfully in several other rec councils across Maryland and it is our turn to modernize this approach.

PFC leadership will be comprised of the existing Soccer Board wiht Additions from BSC whose goal is to make this new entity cost effective and competitive with a combination of paid trainers and parent volunteer coaches.  We plan to offer year round offerings including clinics, camps, and league play for all members of the CMRC soccer community.  This change will entail a rebranding effort including new uniform kits for the coming season.

In this season of change, please feel free to ask questions as we want this to be a smooth transition and one that continually improves how the sport we love is delivered to our children.
